Food Born Pathogen Detection

TBT is currently working with the USDA to validate a sensor against Salmonella for a potential client (and other customers with similar needs) in the food processing industry. As tested, the sensor will be used on site at a food processing plant and give a result in under 10 minutes without using a label, which is faster and easier to use than currently available PCR testing.

Concurrently with the development of the Salmonella test are tests for e.coli O157:H7 and Listeria. We expect to have data and marketable sensors for these applications shortly, and are also looking to develop other sensors for the food industry that relate to pathogen detection on food processing equipment and other areas of potential contamination.

The detection of pathogens is not limited to meat but can also be used on fresh vegetables and fruits, as well as on processed foods such as ice cream.
