TBT is working with the USDA on a sensor to detect Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) in swine. That virus has a large economic impact on hog farmers, who could benefit from a rapid on-site sensor with the ability to detect this virus before introduction of a diseased animal to a farm. TBT is working with a hog farmer in Iowa and is planning for on-site trials of the sensor this spring. There are a number of animal-related diseases for which TBT can develop sensors, with the advantage being that the TBT sensor can be used on site and give answers in real time. This gives the farmer a strategic advantage to keep the farm safe from the introduction of potentially diseased animals.
